Golden Jubilee Celebrations of TLCA – 1971 to 2021
The Telugu Literary and Cultural Association (TLCA) of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut is a Non-profit organization and is one of the oldest Indian Associations in North America. TLCA was founded on March 17, 1971 by a visionary group of idealists. It was formed with the primary goal of preserving the Telugu culture and its linguistic heritage for current and future generations of Telugu people who originate from the South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh & Telangana.
One of the primary goals of the Founder Members was to create a platform where every Telegu family joins together to celebrate our customs, traditions, festivals, language, arts and other skill sets native to this particular ethnic group hailing from South India. We proudly claim that since its inception, TLCA has celebrated all the main Telugu festivals; Sankranti, Ugadi, and Deepavali and annual Picnic without any break, even under trying circumstances. TLCA further, conducts events for youth, men, and women such as Sports and Games (Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis), annual competitions for youth in different areas (elocution, essay writing, art, classical/semi classical/folk dance, classical/semi classical/folk songs), yoga/health/financial/nutrition/immigration seminars.
As part of ongoing cultural celebrations, TLCA invites film artists, musicians, singers, scholars, spiritual gurus, dance gurus and dance artists, distinguished men and women with high honors and eminent speakers from here in the U.S., India and from all over the world, so that members of our community, especially our youth members, benefit immensely from these rich interactions. TLCA in the past has provided its platform to well known stalwarts like legendary actors Sri. N.T. Rama Rao garu, Sri. Akkineni Nageswara Rao garu, the great singer Sri. Ghantasala garu, the father of Karnataka Music Sri. Bala Murali Krishna garu, to name a few.
TLCA actively involves in community service and helps Indian diaspora in general and Telugu community in particular, whenever such a need arose. Not to be outdone, our TLCA youth also actively involves in community service and raise donations to support people affected by any natural disasters or calamities devastating any part of the world. We are proud of our Telugu Youth members.
In the year of 1996 TLCA has celebrated its 25th anniversary. In the year 2006, TLCA has celebrated its 35th anniversary and in 2011, TLCA has celebrated its 40th anniversary. On all these occasions, TLCA honored all its past Presidents and Chairmen of the Board of Trustees in recognition of their services to the organization and to the community.
In the year 2021, TLCA is proudly celebrating its 50 years of yeoman service to the community. In spite of the constraints, restrictions imposed and entailing confusion on account of pandemic for the last one and half years, TLCA has managed to uphold what it has been continuously doing, that is, celebrating our main festivals like Sankranti, Ugadi and Deepavali and other relevant functions, via Zoom and other virtual venues by broadcasting through TV channels. In the process, the viewership and more aptly the participation of our members has increased manifold. We have also celebrated some physical events like Father’s Day, Sports & Games and Annual Picnic, on a much larger scale than everbefore.
Now, TLCA is planning to have its Golden jubilee celebrations in the month of November 2021
The strength of our organization lies in the active participation of our larger membership in all its activities and supporting it by way of donations or otherwise by volunteering to serve the organization and the community. We are indeed grateful to all our donors, members, volunteers and supporters without whom this great organization would not have survived for 50 long years.
Join the TLCA! Come to the TLCA events! And most of all teach our children about Telugu culture, Telugu language, our traditions, customs and make sure they carry the torch forward unto the future.
